About

Verification ledger

We tell readers that every cited source is checked on a schedule. This is the record of that, published in full including what failed. Last run August 15, 2026.

A source that answers a browser but refuses an automated request is counted separately rather than as a failure. Government and registry sites do this routinely, and treating it as link rot would mean pulling good citations. Only a URL that a real fetch cannot reach twice counts as failed.

The 19 citations that failed

These are live on the site now and are being repaired. Publishing them is the point: a verification claim that only ever reports success is not a check, it is a slogan.

How it runs

What happens to a page that fails

The job runs on a fixed schedule over half the corpus at a time, so every page comes round roughly monthly rather than all of them being restamped on one day. A page whose citations all respond is recorded clean. A page with a dead citation is held back: it is not re-dated and not presented as freshly reviewed until the citation is fixed, because moving a review date on a page we have not actually repaired would be the exact freshness signal readers should distrust. 16 pages are held back from the last run.

A page's review date changes when the page itself changes. It does not move because a scheduled job ran.
