Find a local agent
Find and compare a real estate agent in South Africa
Most South African buyers and sellers find an agent through the big property portals, where local agencies and their listings are searchable by suburb, or by asking for referrals and noticing which agents have boards and recent sales in their area. It is common to speak to a few agents from different agencies before signing a mandate.
Where to find and compare agents in South Africa
- Property24 Estate Agencies
The agent directory on South Africa's largest property portal, where you can browse agencies and agents by province and city and view their profiles and current listings.
- Private Property Estate Agents
A second major portal's agent directory that lets you browse estate agents and agencies by province and area alongside their property listings.
- PPRA Practitioner Search
The official Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority tool to check whether an individual agent or agency is registered and in good standing by name or reference number.
- Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA)
The statutory regulator (formerly the Estate Agency Affairs Board) that registers property practitioners and issues the Fidelity Fund Certificate every legitimate agent must hold.
How to choose a good one
Interview two or three agents, ask about their recent sales and average days on market in your specific suburb, and confirm the commission rate, which is negotiable and not fixed by law. Before signing a mandate, verify the agent and agency are registered with the PPRA and hold a valid Fidelity Fund Certificate, and clarify whether you are signing a sole or open mandate and for how long.
